Computing power, massive storage, servers running day and night... The magic of visual effects comes at an invisible cost: energy.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VFX: beauty that consumes energy<\/h3>\n\n<p><strong>The 3D images we create for your projects inspire you, make you dream and transport you. But producing these worlds requires a significant amount of material and energy resources.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Every 3D rendering and every simulation requires enormous computing power.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 530px; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/bluraydefectueux.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cnc.jpg\" alt=\"image.png\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">According to the <strong>CNC<\/strong> (the French National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image), VFX studios are among the most energy-intensive in the audiovisual sector. Electricity used by servers, workstations and 3D rendering accounts for <strong>nearly 45% of a digital studio's total consumption<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">On average, a VFX studio consumes <strong>66.6 kWh\/m\u00b2<\/strong>, compared to approximately <strong>50 kWh\/m\u00b2<\/strong> for the national average across all sectors.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>These figures remind us that digital creativity also has its ecological footprint.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Towards more responsible rendering<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Fortunately, there are concrete levers that can be used to reduce this impact without compromising or altering visual quality. The CNC's \"<strong>Action!<\/strong>\" plan, which supports the ecological transition of cinema and audiovisual media, has identified several of them:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Perform rendering at night<\/strong> to take advantage of lower carbon electricity and smooth out energy consumption.<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Switch off or automate the shutdown of unused equipment<\/strong>, such as servers and monitors.<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Choose a cloud powered by renewable energy<\/strong> for storage and computing.<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Lighten and sort stored data<\/strong>, by deleting obsolete versions or archiving on LTO tapes.<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Extend the lifespan of equipment<\/strong> and prioritise refurbished items.<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Encourage sustainable transport<\/strong> or partial teleworking to reduce commuting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">At <strong>Tronatic Studio<\/strong>, we share this belief: every action counts. <br>We use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tronatic-studio.com\/en\/render-farm-ferme-de-rendu-kezako\/\" target=\"_self\">our own rendering farm<\/a>, which is fully automated, along with an automated hot air extraction system.
